The estate is located in Črna vas on the Ljubljansko barje (Ljubljana Marshes), which is a mere seven kilometres from the centre of the capital. The Marshes are an inspiration with their flora, fauna and landscape peculiarities; they are an ideal destination for cycling enthusiasts who may take a stop at the spiritual centre, the church of Sv. Mihael that was built according to the creative design of the famous Slovenian architect, Plečnik.

Our country estate combines a genuine, traditional way of living in harmony with nature and high-tech equipment. Our lifestyle reflects a deep desire to find peace, truth and authenticity in our existence.
Urša and Miha managed to free up an estate from the stubborn embrace of wilderness. This yielded the name of the estate, Trnulja (blackthorn). They say that these thorns watched and saved this beautiful estate for them. Today, this is an organic farm involved in the cultivation of oleaginous plants and cereals and their processing into organic oils, spreads, regular and wholemeal flour. It is also home to numerous animals; horses, goats, donkeys, ducks, chickens, cats and a dog. Today, this is also an organic, excursion, tourist farm offering eco apartments (they are entirely built with health-friendly materials). The farm has a sales area where they offer organic foodstuffs from their own estate and nearby farms and where they prepare organic lunches on Sundays between 12 noon and 6 PM, while they serve cold cuts on Saturday between 8 AM and 12 noon.
Country estate Trnulja lives and breathes in unison with nature. Trnulja’s organic fresh produce and products – we call them Trnjulcicas – are healthy and nutritious crops from our sun-kissed fields. Carefully harvested, they fulfil their promise of pure goodness. Country estate Trnulja has obtained the BIODAR organic certification from the Union of Slovenian Organic Farmers Associations (USOFA).
As their name BIODAR (i.e. the gift of life) implies, they are organic foodstuffs of superior quality. Only products of Slovenian farmers and producers who comply with the above-listed regulations and are members of USOFA can be labelled with the BIODAR logo. Individual code of the producer, their name and address must be provided on every product and foodstuff packaging labelled with the BIODAR logo. This ensures traceability of every product from the farm to the table. As such, the BIODAR trademark provides a market guarantee of the integrity of organic claims – the foodstuff or the product is a genuine organic product which is controlled from the field (or the barn) to the shelf from the certifying bodies.

At the country estate Trnulja we like to spoil our guests with ever new gourmet dishes. Their full flavour will not leave you indifferent. We cook for you with our heart and imagination, drawing inspiration from old Slovenian recipes for delicious homely food. To prepare healthy meals that promote the well-being of our guests we use exclusively nutritious, certified organic foodstuffs cultivated at our farm, such as organic cold-pressed oils, organic flours, organic vegetables and organic meat from our billy goats and donkeys.
The large dinning room with a fireplace and fragrant wooden furniture is homely and pleasant to spend time in. Sometimes also with live music – the hosts of the country estate Trnulja play several instruments.
Looking for some fun? How about putting your singing skills to test with karaoke after a delicious dinner? A large projection screen, wireless Internet access, speakers and a microphone are available.
Would you like to learn how to prepare a delicious and healthy meal yourself? Come to our special cooking workshops, where we will cook, marinate and bake by following traditional Slovenian recipes and using exclusively organic produce from the country estate Trnulja. You will learn how to create interesting table settings, serve the dishes correctly and last, but certainly not the least, we will enjoy the dishes we have prepared together.

All of our buildings and facilities were entirely built in accordance with the principles of sustainable green architecture and by using ecological natural materials (predominantly wood). We used biodegradable building materials.
Our holiday apartments are built solely with sustainable eco materials. The way they are equipped will help you relax and recharge your batteries at the country estate Trnulja before returning to your everyday activities.
The interiors of our holiday apartments smell of natural, unprocessed wood, while the clay products and hemp textile give a touch of homeliness and snugness to the living space. The floors are covered with recycled brick from the old house that used to stand here, while the walls comprise a wooden construction with hemp insulation and clay plaster. All of the furniture is made from natural Slovenian wood and given a rustic finish. The mattresses are made from hemp fibre of the highest quality, as is the hemp textile for bed linen, towels and curtains. These materials have a positive influence on our health and well-being.
Four holiday apartments are available – two on the ground floor and two in the attic. Guests can also stay in a studio apartment for two persons, which has their own entrance. Our eco apartments are eco friendly, we are trying to set up ecotourism in the back to nature method.
In addition to mouth-watering culinary delights, prepared from our own organic produce, and homely accommodation in our eco holiday apartments and studio, we can organise a number of special activities upon prior arrangement: horse-drawn carriage rides and guided tours of the Ljubljana Marshes, educational workshops and guided tours of our farm, organic oil tasting and demonstration of the cold-pressed oil extraction, meeting our farm animals and more.
