At MIKRO+POLO, we have been following and realizing our mission of solving every problem our customer might encounter in the experimental environment of their laboratory for more than 20 years now.
Mikro+Polo is a family company founded by Vojko Podgornik in 1990 in Maribor. During this twenty-year period, we have grown into the biggest Slovenian supplier of laboratory accessories, equipment, chemicals, and diagnostics.
The company was created from two successful firms:
- Mikro – a manufacturer of processing and pool equipment
- Polo – a manufacturer of laboratory equipment
We continued by manufacturing laboratory equipment which we successfully marketed in the territory of former Yugoslavia, and expanded our business by importing laboratory accessories and apparatuses. In 1991, we began selling laboratory chemicals, and in the following year added diagnostic tools for microbiological and biochemical laboratories in the healthcare field. In the years of the company’s operation, we developed our own program for laboratory and processing equipment, accessories and chemicals for development, research, and diagnostic laboratories, apparatus manufacturing, design and execution of laboratory construction works, laboratory furniture manufacturing, and complete servicing and validation of sold apparatuses and equipment.
We have 82 employees who make sure that the link between more than 4000 buyers on one side and 300 suppliers on the other is a successful one. A high level of professional competence is achieved by employing 25 sales representatives, each of them having a university degree in various fields: chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, health care, pharmacy etc. who make over 9000 sales visits per year. Our product line contains more than 400,000 products; 247,367 of these are represented and made available in the first Slovenian web application (b2b.mikro-polo.si).
We take particular pride in our own manufacture of laboratory furniture with which we have equipped more than 400 laboratories in Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Russia, and other countries around the globe.

Since the very beginning, our fundamental principle has been that every user can have their laboratory customized to fit their specific needs, wishes, and ideas. All these are required by the nature of the experimental environment in which research work is carried out.
As the leading Slovenian manufacturer of laboratory furniture, we have gained the trust of a great many customers who use the professional nature of our engineering to their benefit. We implement specific design solutions into your laboratory equipment and adaptations to the work process. Alongside these we provide complete consultancy services, planning, delivery and installation of furniture, as well as repairs, processing, and post-processing of existing furniture (also of other manufacturers).
We equip laboratories with furniture following the principles of functionality, quality, safety, and flexibility. You can choose between:
- Wooden furniture: of our own manufacturing such as “POLO” in different varieties, where the look and dimensions are entirely adapted to the needs of our customer, technology, and space,
- Metal furniture: of the manufacturer FLORES VALLES (powder-coated or stainless sheet metal variety).
If we want the work-specific measurements to be accurate we need to continuously monitor the measuring equipment’s individual parameters, e.g. mechanical effects, time stability of electronic devices, accuracy between the set and actual temperature, uniformity of temperature distribution in the room, etc.
Our advantages:
At Mikro+Polo, we have our own accredited calibration laboratory at our disposal. “Accreditation” means determining and recognizing the technical competence of a laboratory on the basis of known criteria, i.e. standards and amendments. Demonstration of that can be recognized in the Accreditation certificate LK-023.
